sensory tOT spot Occupational Therapy is an approved New York State Early Intervention Service Provider for the statewide Early Intervention Program under Title II-A of Article 25 of the Public Health Law.

Our home and community based Early Intervention Program provides occupational therapy services to infants and toddlers with a disability or developmental delay.  Children who are eligible for the Early Intervention Program receive these services at no cost to the family.

To be eligible for services, children must be under 3 years of age and have a disability or developmental delay.  According to NY State, a developmental delay means that a child has not attained developmental milestones expected for the child’s age in one or more of the following areas of development: physical, cognitive, communication, social-emotional, and/or adaptive.  A disability means that a child has a diagnosed physical or mental condition that often leads to problems in development.

Early Intervention Services are family-centered, focusing on a collaborative or team effort between the family, community, special instructors/teachers and therapists.  Its purpose is directed towards meeting the child’s developmental needs and helping the parents/guardians learn ways to support and promote the child’s development.

Any parent/guardian and/or professional who suspects a child, birth to age three, meets the criteria for the program may contact sensory tOT spot directly for assistance in the referral process.  Additionally, parents/guardians and/or professionals can contact their local Early Intervention Program directly through their county of residence to begin the referral process.

sensory tOT spot Occupational Therapy is also an approved Committee on Preschool Special Education service provider through Saratoga County.

Before your child receives special education or related therapy services, the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA) requires an initial evaluation be conducted.   Either a parent of a child or a teacher/professional staff may request an evaluation for a child who is between the ages of three and five years old.  Within the school, recommendation for evaluation is based on observations of behaviors and abilities within the classroom.  If your child is found to be eligible for the CPSE program, services are provided at no cost to the family.

To request an evaluation for your child, you may call or write to the Committee for Preschool Education (CPSE)  within the child’s home school district.  Additionally, you may contact sensory tOT spot directly for assistance in the referral process
